Foreword - Sarwat Okasha. Introduction. The colour plates. Chronological table. The catalogue with plates
'This volume was originally intended to serve as a handbook for an exhibition scheduled to be shown at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and the Metropolitan Museuum of Art in New York, as part of their 1970 centennial programmes, and later at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art....As the loan neared the date of departure, the political situation became such that the Egyptian authorities felt it necessary to postpone the loan until a later and more suitable time....We...agreed that the handbook should be distributed in its present form as an 'exhibition without walls' encompassing some of the finest existing examples of ancient Egyptian art. The emphasis of our selection is on sculputure, especially sculpture in the round....' --Introduction
