Abstract: 'Since the calendar was the hub around which the yearly religious life of the Minoans revolved, it provides the clue to rituals which later became verbalized as myths and pictorialized as images in works of art. A great many of the myths in literature and the icons in visual art of the classical world had their origin in archetypes which become understandable only when they are restored to their original calendric context.'
