(Carl Gustav) 1875-1961--Works--ETH SeminarsAbstract: 'This first translation (1987/88) of the Hall ar-Rumuz was a draft, done by two non-professionals. The interpretation of Marie-Louise von Franz is based on this draft. As it was the wish of Dr von Franz to have the edition of this Arabic manuscript done according to scientific standards, she encouraged extensive additional research....This led to many changes in the translation of the basic text which is presented here....In the collection of Arabic alchemical texts which is going to be published, the first volume will contain the first draft-translation together with the interpretation given by Marie-Louise von Franz. This will allow the reader to see exactly what her interpretation was, and to see how important a key-text it is to the psychological understanding of the Corpus of Arabic alchemy....Because the preparation of the proper edition of the Hall ar-Rumuz text and of the revised commentary will take its time, we publish here--according to the wish of many people--this private print. In order to avoid any premature scientific discussion of her work, this publication is strictly for private use only. No quoting and/or reviewing of this text is allowed.' --Foreword to this private edition
