'My approach to the athletic motif is three-layered, and based on the notion that an archetype finds incarnation or expression in relative temporal dimensions. The first dimension, the archaelogically oldest, iis the manifestation in ancient myth....The second dimension is the modern deployment of the motif....the second is very much historically conditioned and carries with it definite temporal values....The third dimension is the personal and historical. Here are presented the dreams of modern individuals, and the relevancy of the athletic motif in their lives....'
