Abstract: '...a wide-ranging analysis of the biblical myth of God and of its impact on culture and human consciousness, from the perspective of the evolution of consciousness that precedes and postdates it. Moore deeply appreciates biblical thought and practice and understands the psychological value of this patriarchal, monotheistic movement. It created a new and distinctive kind of individual ego-consciousness. But it did so at a great price, and Moore is fully aware of this, too.
