Abstract: '...Dr. Stoller suggests that similar elements are present in the erotic fantasies of both perverse and non-perverse people; we all construct "a script, the principal purpose of which is to undo childhood traumas, conflicts, and frustrations by converting these earlier painful experiences to present (fantasized) triumphs."...Perversions can be differentiated from "normal" behavior by considering whether the erotic excitement brings one toward or away from sustained intimacy with another person....Dr. Stoller is concerned with how psychoanalysts should present their findings....Psychoanalysis would be better served, he says, if analytic writers confined themselves to direct description, presented in the non-diagnostic and jargon-free terminology that his book illustrates so well.'
