Abstract: 'I put forward my findings in the full knowledge that the Association Experiment leaves much room for subjective interpretation, tht 20 women form a very small group on which to base a hypothesis, and that no magic or scientific formula has yet made any inroad on the growing obesity problem. I have documented the data as carefully as possible and quoted conversations verbatim in the hope of making conscious the inner world of the obese woman. Each is an individual, but each is obese. Consciousness will not solve the problem, but it may make the suffering meaningful.'
