Abstract: '"The World's Great Religions" series appeared in Life in six parts during 1955: Hinduism (February 7), Buddhism (March 7), Chinese faiths (April 4), Islam (May 9), Judaism (June 13), and the double Special Issue on Christianity (December 26). Two years of intensive research and photography throughout the world were devoted to the combined project. A third year has been spent in expanding the series into book form, with 160 pages of additional material both on the religions themselves and in selections from their scriptures. An introduction, index, and list of credits and of picture sources have also been added.'
