Lecture given to the Analytical Psychology Club of Los Angeles on Nov. 12, 1948.
'The movies represent a modern form of mass entertainment. But, more than that, they are also a form in which modern fairy tales and myths can be told. Stories have always been told, dramas performed, thus fulfilling a therapeutic purpose of curing the mind and soul of suffering man by placing his troubles in a universal frame. There is no doubt in my mind that today the movie theatre fulfills this role to a large extent. As Parker Tyler says, the true field of the movies is not art but myth.' --p.1
