Subject(s): Abstract: 'Jung's attitude towards the soul and towards God is: "God could not be without me; I could not be without God" (Angelus Silesius)....The soul, for Jung, is subject and object....For me there are three layers: 1. The Personal Unconscious; 2. The Collective Unconscious; 3. Religious Reality. The first two preserve the third. I have come to this realization through many years of work in the dreams of others and myself; there is the personal unconscious, the collective unconscious, and then comes the new experience. I am taking an enormous step with you, through the personal unconscious, the collective unconscious, and into the religious reality.' --p. 7

These lectures were given in Summer 43. The mimeographed text is a compilation of notes taken by several members of the Seminar. It must be understood that they are not a literal transcription of what was said by Dr. Kirsch or the members. These notes are primarily meant to refresh the memory of those who attended the Seminar. Due to the incompleteness of these notes, they are not intended for outer circulation.". The poems by Ruth Wolfers have been included in this volume because they were stimulated by these lectures and because they express the spirit of the Seminar in a beautiful form.
