Abstract: 'The chief virtue of the present collection of papers, it seems to me, lies in its potential for extending discussion in novel directions. Moving beyond now-familiar issues of cultural sex-role determination or biology, this volume will encourage its readers to think afresh the multiple connections between religious ideology and feminist awareness, between empiric male-female relationships and the images through which religious beliefs have found expression throughout history. Above all, what is herein supplied is an opportunity to reexamine the metaphisycal and ontological underpinnings upon which sexual stereotypes have been thought to depend.' --Foreword
